The Whirlpool (Spanish) Aero Car

The Whirlpool (Spanish) Aero Car has been in operation since August 8th, 1916,

And you'll be relieved to know,
There's never been, even the slightest mishap, to date!

The brilliant designer was Leonardo Torres-Quevedo,
um...a dude from Spain!

The car crosses 1800 ft.,
Between Colt's Point and Thompson Point,
Which are both on the Canadian side.

The trip takes only ten minutes.....
So, you can imagine...it really moves!

You are suspended on eight gigantic steel cables,
250 feet above The Whirlpool Rapids.
60 acres of treacherous raging waters of the lower Niagara River!!

The car itself holds about 35 to 40 passengers....

It's powered by a 60-horsepower motor...
(It was a Buick engine when they first opened).

The prices are:
Adults $11.00,
Children $6.50
Children under five years old ride free.
The operating hours during high season are:
From 9AM to 8PM (weather permitting).

The view is absolutely spectacular!!

While you're up there....
You'll see the
Whirlpool Jet Boats!
You'll watch them do amazing 360's
and other tricks right beneath you!
You'll see them as they fight the mighty Niagara  current
with those powerful 1500 horsepower engines,
And, you'll hear the "Whoas & Ahhhs"
of all the  passengers.

It's a thrill to watch!

Now, for you fishermen, and women,
I know what you're thinking....
What kind of fish can ya' catch in this crazy Whirlpool?

Well,
Bullhead Catfish, Trout,
Salmon, (when they're not spawning),
Carp (if you care),
And further down the river..
Sheephead.!

There You Go!
The Whirpool Aero Car,
formerly called,
The Spanish Aero Car,
is our next stop along
the way,
on our mini-tour
of Niagara Falls.

It's located a just a short
jaunt down the
NIAGARA RIVER
CORRIDOR
(or Thunder Alley, as
some call it).
Here, we have, Bob!

Bob is an avid fisherman
who visits the Whirlpool
all the time!
BTW....
Do you know how they wired those huge
Aero Car cables?

They tied ropes to the cable and walked
each cable all the way around the
whirlpool......
Then, they hoisted them and winched them
up the side of the gorge.

Amazing, eh?
On The Ride!
